Thermal underwear keeps the heat in and the cold out.
Thermal underwear is often referred to as long underwear, long johns or union suit.
Thermal underwear has long served the body, by insulating it from cold air and harsh weather conditions. Thermal underwear is a necessary layer for a gamut of outdoor sports: skiing, snowboarding, telemark skiing, hiking, camping, hunting, and fishing that involve exposure to nature’s elements. Since you have no control over nature’s weather patterns, thermal underwear can serve as a piece of survival gear in harsh conditions that requires immediate preparedness.
Traditionally, thermal underwear was developed using a two ply method. Today, passionate outdoor manufacturers have technologically advanced the development of thermal underwear using materials (even environmentally friendly materials) to manage the heat, the cold and all temperatures in between. Here are a few of our favorites:
Patagonia
developed thermal underwear and call it capilene which is composed of 98% polyester (50% recycled); 2% spandex and features Gladiodor, natural anti-odor control. The fabric is stretchable and breathable and allows for mobility without chafing. Patagonia’s 3 and 4 series will meet the harshest of conditions and is designed with the environment in mind. Their performance garments ‘use 76 percent less energy than if they'd made it out of virgin petroleum.’ What’s even better is Patagonia will accept your donated old tattered capilene shirts and recycle them into new capilene clothing. Patagonia’s long-term goal is to ‘take environmental responsibility for everything (they) make’. They are simply asking you to take small steps.
Under Armour
is not just for the NFL athlete. Their thermal underwear uses microfiber technology to manage moisture and keep athletes dry, light and cool when they’re performing at their greatest. Under Armour designs three series of high performance underwear: HeatGear for when it’s ho t; ColdGear when it’s cold and for between the extremes the AllSeasonGear.
Gear up 4 nature with insulated thermal underwear. It’s now designed to handle the heat, the cold and everything in between.
